
A.P.I.C.E is a non-profit organization set up in Trieste, Italy, in 1986. A.P.I.C.E. is an acronymous for "Anaesthesia, Pain, Intensive Care and Emergency medicine" and it works in cooperation with the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care of the University of Trieste, Italy. Since its establishment in 1986, Club A.P.I.C.E. has gained a very good reputation and a quality as high as any recognized school of medicine.
A.P.I.C.E. focusses its scientific activity on the organization of a series of meetings and congresses for physicians and all those interested in the treatment of the critically ill. The Annual Meetings set up by A.P.I.C.E. are promoted under the auspices of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM), the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and the European Society of Anaesthesiologists (E.S.A.), as well as by the Italian Government and other scientific and social bodies.
Club A.P.I.C.E. organizes every year a wide range of scientific activities. This document will help you find out what they are.
- The Fondation Européenne d'Enseignement en Anésthesiologie (F.E.E.A.) promotes a series of Post-graduate Courses on Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine throughout Europe and South America, with the aim of providing a high level post-graduate education; the courses are set up under the patronage of the European Community. To this purpose the F.E.E.A. has set up a series of regional centres; Trieste has been appointed as one of those centres and it has helped the development of the Foundation towards Eastern countries such as Slovenia and Croatia. In this project, the University of Trieste co-operates with nine Italian Universities, namely those of Ancona, Bologna, Ferrara, Milan, Modena, Padua, Udine, Varese, and Verona.
- Education and Training in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (E.T.A.I.C.). Under this title goes a series of meetings aimed at updating and directed towards a tutorial activity for the training of physicians in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. This co-operative programme involves a series lectures given by trainees of the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care of the University of Trieste, Italy, to those of the Department of Anaesthesiology of the University Hospital of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and vice-versa, under the supervision of the academic body of their relative institutes.
- Co-operative Programme for Education and Training in Critical Care. Under this title goes a series of lectures given by a highly qualified expert in the field of anaesthesiology and intensive care; it is a cooperative programme among the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care of the University Medical School of Trieste, Italy, the Department of Anaesthesiology of the University of Udine, Italy, the Department of Anaesthesiology of the University Hospital of Ljubljana, Slovenia and the Department of Emergency Medicine of the University Hospital "Rebro" of Zagreb, Croatia.
Trauma Operative Procedures (T.O.P.) Under this title goes a series of meetings, inside which are sessions dedicated to the promotion of guidelines on the management of trauma.
- The Organ Failure Academy (O.F.A.) promotes, together with Club A.P.I.C.E., an international forum for scientists and intensive care physicians devoted to research for the prevention and management of sepsis and organ dysfunction; the forums take place during the course of A.P.I.C.E. International Symposiums. The meetings of the O.F.A. bring together distinguished scientists-clinicians from around the world to present and discuss their contributions to the care of the critically ill and injured.
- A.P.I.C.E. '99 International Symposium on Critical Care Medicine - 14th Annual Meeting is an annual event set up by Club A.P.I.C.E. in cooperation with the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care of the University of Trieste. Since its first edition in 1986, the Symposium has grown both in success and in importance; today it is regarded as one of the most important European meetings in the field of critical care medicine. The Meeting consists of a series of Comprehensive Courses, of Round Tables, Seminars, Invited Lectures, Meetings with Experts, and is the occasion for the presentation of the O.F.A. Meetings. In 1999 the Symposium will be held in Trieste at the Congress Centre - Stazione Marittima. Join us from the 15th to the 19th of November. A scientific programme and a programme for social events are currently being prepared.
Aside from all its scientific activities, Club A.P.I.C.E. is engaged in a rich editorial activity.
